My Birchbox: April 2015

Hello there!  This one is also very late but I’m catching up so I can have the May one posted this month.  Bear with me! Here we go. IMG_3849_2

Cost: $10.00 per month, $110 per year, free shipping

The rewards: Every review of a product you receive in your box, you earn 10 points. If you refer a friend and they use the link you send them, you get 50 points per person. In no time you will rack up 100 points which translates to $10.00 to use in the Birchbox shop. Only when you get 100 points do you get $10.00, if you have 60 points, you currently have $0.00 in rewards.  You can earn as much as you can save!

So here’s the deal: “Each month, you’ll receive a selection of samples that we’ve tried (and retried) ourselves. We source our samples from both well-known brands and emerging gems. The women’s subscription includes everything from skincare to makeup, as well as fun non-beauty extras. The men’s subscription delivers top-tier grooming products in addition to lifestyle accessories ranging from hip socks to tech accessories.”

First, can I say, how gorgeous is this box?  Birchbox partnered it Rifle Paper Co. and it’s beautiful!  I am trying so hard to find a way to use it in my room so let me know if you have any ideas!  Again, we got to pick a sample and I picked the POP eyeshadow palette in Peach Parfait.  I was excited to help fill the hole left by the lack of Lorac Unzipped Gold with this one!

This is what I saw when I first opened the box, a shampoo, a conditioner, a lip lube, and a little box with some extra goodies!

POP Eyeshadow Palette in Peach Parfait
Size: 3 shadows  Value:  $2.17

So this is the palette, there’s three colors with shimmer. There’s the light cream, bright rose gold, and darker gold.  It’s adorable too which is nice to keep in my makeup drawer!

Here is a better photo of the three shadows.  They are pretty far on the orange-y pink side of gold but I appreciate how much they make my eyes pop.  And, personally, I think they should ditch the foam brush that everyone throws away and knock a dollar off the selling price (and save materials), but maybe it’s just me?

Here are the swatches, featuring my trusty gray sweatshirt sleeve.  Top is the darkest, middle is the rose gold, and bottom is the cream.  The cream is definitely the most pigmented, be careful with that one.  It doesn’t quite blend as well with the other colors like I thought it would/should.  The other colors are as pigmented which makes it harder to make a full eye look with these three.

Laqa and CO Lip Lube in Honeypot
Size: 0.07 oz  Value: $14

This one came with the lipstick broken off and smashed up against the cap, sadly.  But I managed to put it back in and use it.

IMG_3870

It is a beautiful purple undertoned pink that isn’t too bright. It’s semi-sheer but builds beautifully!  And it smells minty! I love this brand and this product, I got it in purple a while back and love it and now I have more of a neutral!

Beaver Nutritive Shampoo and Conditioner
Size: 60 ml, 40 ml   Value: $3.48, $3.04IMG_3875

Can we take a moment to acknowledge the amazing packaging on these?  They are basically real shampoos no little hotel bottles or foil packets.  I really love when there is good packaging for samples because I am paying for these and I don’t want to get something I can get for free in a hotel.  The smell is not too strong but I do like the product.

CLEAN Perfume Sample Size IMG_3881

You guys know how much I dislike fragrance samples because I never buy fragrance, and it’s so hit or miss.  I have my signature scents and I probably won’t get a different one for maybe 4 years.  I love my scent and this one smells like soap.  Mission accomplished I guess since it’s inspired by soap, but it’s not for me.

Total Value: $22.69

  • POP Eyeshadow Palette – $2.17
  • Laqa and CO Lip Lube – $14
  • Beaver Nutritive Shampoo –  $3.48
  • Beaver Nutritive Conditioner – $3.04
  • CLEAN Perfume – N/A

Overall, my favorite Item was the Lip Lube and the eyeshadow palette although the eyeshadow was a bit disappointing, I still like the colors.  The shampoo and conditioner are pretty nice as well, so the only miss was the perfume which is great because it wasn’t a huge part of the box!  If you want to sign up, you can do so here (you skip the wait and I get a few Birchbox points!

What did you get in your April box (if you can remember that far back)?  Did you get anything I did?  Let me know!

xoxo
